My inevitable switch from Mac to Windows

I've been using a Windows-based PC for the last 6 months. Below is my review and how I feel about leaving the Mac ecosystem.

With the improvement and cost efficiency of Windows, many Mac users are jumping ship. With fierce competition and many Americans not willing to pay the premium to use Macs, I had to decide if I was going to continue to give Apple my hard earned money based on their recent performance and my needs as a photographer.

“With fierce competition and many Americans not willing to pay the premium to use Macs, I had to decide if I was going to continue to give Apple my hard earned money based on their recent performance and my needs as a photographer.”

Why?

With Apple admitting that they were slowing down iPhones I became suspicions of my Mac. I have not added any major software and do not store my images on the local drive and could not understand why it became so slow. I wiped the machine clean and started over only to run into the same issue weeks later. This began my hunt to replace it.

Options

So, my wife and I went to Best Buy and saw the new touch bar Mac and I could not bring myself to get it because the SD card slot is vital to me especially because I travel more most. I did not want to be the one to buy a dongle and either forget it at home or dump the laptop in my backpack with the dongle still attached. The price tag for this model at that time was about $2500.

I absolutely love that the machine logs me on via face recognition and the pen/tablet feature is something I cannot live without now. I remember when a new associate was teaching a class and she was so glad that she had just purchased the Mac mentioned above. To each their own but when she saw that I was taking notes on the web pages with my pen and saving them so that I can reference them later within my browser she and her co-workers were blown away! They also could not believe that I paid a mere $1600 for it.

Image Editing

Image Editing was slow as it is on all machines but this machine handled Photoshop like it was a desktop. I also saw vast speed improvements in Aurora HDR 2018 and Luminar 2018. A few months after that, Adobe released a Lightroom update and that's when I saw the raw power of this 16 GB horse. I was zooming through images which helped me deliver my products and serves faster than I ever had.

Conclusion

Am I happy that I had to move all of my files and software (most companies allowed free switching) over to PC? No. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.
